A few pictures I took at the finish line tonight as the sun was going down.
Here we go. It's about race time. What am I thinking about now? Well, I'm running everything through my head. I'm thinking about what I packed in my transition bags, what I'm going to eat tonight and tomorrow morning, and constantly running the course through my head.
The swim is easy. It's in protected waters and runs about 72 degrees on race day. No chance for waves. High tide hits at 5:30am, which raises the level of the river and causes an outgoing current as the tide goes out. This means a tougher swim up river, but an easy swim back into the ramp. Looking for 1:20 on the swim.
The bike can be very technical in the Port Macquarie area. Apply the right speed at the right areas and rest at the right areas and you can make short work on the course through town. There is one hill though that is so dangerous, they park an ambulance there on race day. I'm glad I took the time to ride the entire course here. It's a bad road and I can now visualize the various obstacles I need to avoid on the course. Looking for 6:30 on the bike.
The run is very flat. Almost no hills whatsoever, so no worries there. It does cover a lot of uneven ground and after the sun goes down that could cause some problems if I don't watch my footing. Looking for 4:20 on the marathon.
With transitions, that should put me at about 12:40, so I'll see what I can do to shave 10 minutes off of something to try and get 12:30 if possible. I just don't think sub 12 is in the cards this year.
